Virus sickens more than 50 at Lafayette College

A stomach virus sickened more than 50 Lafayette College students between Friday and Tuesday.

The infection rate may have peaked over the weekend as fewer people were seen Monday at the Easton school’s health center and Easton Hospital, Dr. Jeffrey Goldstein, director of health services, wrote that day in a health alert.

The number of those infected and who sought treatment climbed to 52 by Tuesday; 47 of those cases were between Friday and Sunday, spokesman Roger Clow and Goldstein said.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health and private laboratories were analyzing specimens from infected students, Goldstein wrote.
