Columbia College receives $5M gift to promote entrepreneurs

Columbia College has been given a $5 million donation to launch an entrepreneurship program.

The State of Columbia reports that college officials on Thursday announced that the gift from Bob and Janice McNair will pay for the creation the McNair Center for Entrepreneurism and the hiring of a director.

Officials say funding over a five-year period will establish customized coursework for students and include apprenticeships and mentoring networks.

College spokeswoman Tracy Bender says the program will be run through the college’s Institute of Leadership and Professional Excellence.

Columbia College is one of eight institutions across the nation to receive funding from the McNair Foundation to invest in entrepreneurism.

Janice McNair graduated from Columbia College in 1959. Her husband Bob McNair is the owner of the Houston Texans.
