Campus Police at Most Public Universities Now Armed With Guns
According to this report from FOX News, private universities are following suit.
Report: Nearly all police armed on public campuses; experts say private schools exploring idea
Nearly all campus police officers at public universities now carry guns, pepper spray and other weapons, according to a new Justice Department report, and experts say more private schools are looking to arm police.
The Bureau of Justice Statistics surveyed more than 900 four-year colleges with at least 2,500 students. Findings released Tuesday show that overall, about two-thirds of public and private campuses used armed officers during the 2011-12 school year. Officers at public universities were more than twice as likely as those at private schools to carry guns.
Despite the increase, schools aren’t required to report weapon use to federal authorities.
Experts say campus administrators are increasingly being pressed for assurances that officers are well-equipped and well-trained following high-profile crimes like the 2007 Virginia Tech shootings.

If these private security forces (They are **NOT** cops) are like Cornell University Police, the we can expect:
– Sleeping on the job
– Sex on the job in your police SUV (Fact: A 7th story building can easily see the top of the 4 story parking garage next to it)
– Threatening students with guns
– Inappropriate use of firearms resulting in bodily injury
– Abuse of power outside your Geographical Area of Employment
– Spending patrol time chatting up the good looking women of Grounds crew. For hours
– And my personal favorite: lying on official court documents
Most college security forces, even those run at public institutions (I’m looking at you SUNY Buffalo) are at the best of times Keystone Kops with guns. CUPD is so bad they make the Keystone Cops look like a professional police force and Sheldon Silver a man of honesty and integrity.
Frankly these department shouldn’t be allowed 50 feet near a Super Soaker, much less a real firearm.
