New study shows vast majority of college presidents don’t want guns on campus
While a new study shows that huge majority of America’s college presidents oppose allowing guns on campuses, it seems to ignore that many campus deaths are related to other causes: Stabbing, bow and arrows, and “marijuana intoxication”, to name but a few.
Furthermore, more and more students are appreciating the value of weapons in thwarting criminal acts, too.
Yes, guns in the hands of criminals and the mentally ill are bad; however, guns in the hands of those trained to use them safely have been known to save lives.
But such data never gets in the way of a fun, new study supporting a progressive meme!
Research from Ball State University publicized Monday showed 95 percent of college presidents and chancellors oppose permiting firearms on their campuses. The survey of 401 college chief executives identified accidental shootings of fellow students as their top concern with allowing guns on campus.
In addition, the survey found 98 percent of college presidents believe students and faculty feel safe on their campuses.
The findings were published in the report “University Presidents’ Perceptions and Practice Regarding the Carrying of Concealed Handguns on College Campuses.” It was publicized less than two weeks after six students were slain near the University of California-Santa Barbara, as 22-year-old Elliot Rodger shot eight people and stabbed three others to death.
There were at least 27 shootings on or near college campuses in 2013.
Allowing guns on campus is proving to be one of the most unpopular proposals in the collegiate world. Legislation to allow firearms at colleges has faced opposition nationwide, including in conservative states.

Pot fatalities? (click, click) Oh. Something else killed them, but they got in trouble because they were high. The drug it’s self did not kill them.
As for guns on campus… Well, of course those lefty tools will get their panties in a bunch over firearms. Can’t have reality intruding on their fantasy worlds, and nothing is as real as life or death.
Maybe if it wasn’t HuffPo, someone would have given this item a more helpful title. Something like,
Violent Criminals and College Presidents Agree – No Guns, Please
The survey of 401 college chief executives identified accidental shootings of fellow students as their top concern with allowing guns on campus.
Yeah, yeah, “blood will run in the streets.” As we know, this just doesn’t happen, at least when we consider the population at large (a population which, of course, includes students). Are students on campus more inclined to violence than students off-campus?
There were at least 27 shootings on or near college campuses in 2013.
Actually, considering how many college campuses there are in the US, this is a vanishingly small number; ‘way down in the noise level. And no matter what college chief executives want, or what they get, I suspect that it will remain down in the noise level.
Which would college presidents prefer: more dead students or students able to defend themselves? Which would they prefer to have: memorial services or certified arms training classes on campus?
Which would they prefer: fearful and deterred would-be killers or terrorized and dead students?
The choice is theirs to make.
