Students at UNC Chapel Hill Protest Their School’s ‘White Supremacist History’
Never let an outrage go to waste. On today’s college campuses, anything that can be protested will be.

UNC-Chapel Hill Students Rally against School’s ‘White Supremacist History’
On April 23rd, a group of multiracial students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill rallied against what they describe as the school’s “white supremacist history.”
They are urging fellow students to sign a petition demanding the school rename a building named after Confederate Army colonel and Ku Klux Klan leader William L. Saunders.
According to the Huffington Post, Saunders became a UNC trustee in 1874 after leading a “terror campaign” against Reconstruction in the 1860s.
UNC senior Mariah Monsanto said, “I want people to know about how their English building was funded by a person who terrorized black people because he just didn’t like them.”
A public Facebook page announced the April 23rd rally to rename Saunders. The Daily Tar Heel ran a photo of the rally, which showed about twenty people gathered behind a sign which read, “Rename Saunders. #KickOutTheKKK.”

I agree with the students here. Rename the building “Confederate Army colonel, DEMOCRAT, and Ku Klux Klan leader William L. Saunders.”
UNC should maintain the true historical record of the Democrats on that building.
What is it with this current crop of students that they protest the very institutions that they worked so hard to apply to, go through the process of getting accepted, then shout their hatred and resentment for the very foundations of that institution? It sounds like a form of self-hatred for choosing to go there…….. Why don’t they just LEAVE and go to another school?!
Juba has a GREAT idea: remind everyone that these fine halls were named for racist DEMOCRATS!
Side note, but related: white privilege is an obsession on the brain these days at universities, but why? We have our first black president, Attorney General, several key advisors and more – and yet it seems that the emphasis on race and “privilege” is grotesquely worse now than since the early 20th Century when Pres.Wilson (D) and the Progressives were pushing race, segregation, and eugenicist clap-trap! Case in point: Princeton U. I just read this at the Blaze: Going Viral Princeton Univ. Student’s Bold Response to “Check Your Privilege”.
Are professors the ones feeding this? Are students just coming in from high schools with all this, planning to attack the institution? Or what?!
When I was in college, I never had time to waste, there was so much course work to do, on top of the jobs I worked to pay for it. Amazing, shocking, but not at all surprising. Sadly, these poor young fools follow, like lemmings, while they think they are empowered leaders. So UN-self-aware, so deluded.
