Never let an outrage go to waste. On today’s college campuses, anything that can be protested will be.

UNC-Chapel Hill Students Rally against School’s ‘White Supremacist History’

On April 23rd, a group of multiracial students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill rallied against what they describe as the school’s “white supremacist history.”

They are urging fellow students to sign a petition demanding the school rename a building named after Confederate Army colonel and Ku Klux Klan leader William L. Saunders.

According to the Huffington Post, Saunders became a UNC trustee in 1874 after leading a “terror campaign” against Reconstruction in the 1860s.

UNC senior Mariah Monsanto said, “I want people to know about how their English building was funded by a person who terrorized black people because he just didn’t like them.”

A public Facebook page announced the April 23rd rally to rename Saunders. The Daily Tar Heel ran a photo of the rally, which showed about twenty people gathered behind a sign which read, “Rename Saunders. #KickOutTheKKK.”
