He’s actually just going to teach for one day as a promotion for the movie Anchorman 2 but the school is taking it pretty seriously. They’re even re-naming the communications school for him while he’s there.

Ron Burgundy to Teach Emerson College the Finer Points of Journalism

San Diego’s own Ron Burgundy is coming to Emerson College, and it’s kind of a big deal.

On December 4, for one day only, Emerson College will rename its communications school the “Ron Burgundy School of Communications,” to honor the newscaster character played by actor Will Ferrell, who will visit campus in character to promote his new movie “Anchorman 2.”

In a bit of pseudo-news that would make Burgundy proud, the school has issued a press release that imagines Burgundy as a real person, worthy of honors, invented quotes and all:

BOSTON, MA—On Wednesday, December 4, Emerson College will name its School of Communication, for one day only, the “Ron Burgundy School of Communication” in honor of legendary anchorman Ron Burgundy. The KVWN Channel 4 Action News TV star who coined the phrase “You stay classy, San Diego” will share his path to journalism greatness with students during a day-long visit

“I had to pinch myself really hard when I learned that Emerson College was naming its School of Communication for me. It’s kind of a big deal,” said Burgundy, a made-up person who surely did not say any of these things.

In addition to a naming ceremony, the day will be marked with a visit from Ferrell/Burgundy, a morning press conference and an evening screening of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. We imagine Emerson’s community will be urged to “stay classy,” several dozen times.

Starting at 11 a.m. on the day of Burgundy’s arrival—Ferrell will be in full character for the all of the day’s scheduled events—those not in attendance can watch all the polyester-wearing action, including the naming ceremony, on Emerson’s livestream channel.
