Wayne State Will See Tuition Increase of 3.2%
Because the cost of higher education isn’t high enough…
The Detroit Free Press reports:
Wayne State University raises tuition 3.2%
Wayne State University students will pay 3.2% more to come to school next year than they did this year.
The Board of Governors unanimously approved the tuition increase at its meeting Friday afternoon. Board members didn’t make any comments while voting.
In approving a 3.2% increase, the Detroit school stays under a tuition cap set by the state and will be eligible for performance money from the state.
The increase works out to $10.75 per credit hour.
The move puts WSU in the same ballpark when it comes to increases as most other Michigan universities, with the exception of Eastern Michigan University.
Eastern Michigan University went far above the tuition cap, when it hiked tuition 7.8%. That’s about an increase of $25 a credit hour. In going over the cap, Eastern forfeited about $1 million in performance aid, but expects an additional $10 million in tuition revenue.
Michigan State University and the University of Michigan raised tuition 2.7%.
Michigan Technological University plans to raise tuition by an average of 3.1% for next school year. Northern Michigan University plans a 3.2% increase.
Wayne State student Marissa Williams, 20, a junior, said she’s not happy with the increase, but glad it wasn’t steeper.
