Ohio University probes threat in social-media post

Ohio University police were investigating a threatening post from a social-media account on Friday night that claimed to be connected to the Islamic State terrorist group.

The post mentioned the university and included an image of a document that contained directory information from one of the university’s academic departments.

OU Police Chief Andrew Powers said in an email to students and faculty, and on the university’s website, that he considered the risk from the post to be low.

“Thousands of social-media accounts claim a connection to ISIS and post threats daily against organizations across the country,” Powers wrote. “However, those threats and affiliations are often not authentic.”
