More and more college campuses are arming their police forces.

USA Today takes a look:

Universities increasingly arming their cops

For years, an increasing number of university police departments have been arming their officers to deal with threats posed by active shooters and the fear of encroaching criminal activity, according to law enforcement officials and Justice Department records.

By 2012, 75% of university police departments were arming their officers, up from 68% in 2005, according to the most recent Justice survey of campus agencies.

The numbers continue to grow, campus law enforcement officials say, even as a deadly shooting at the University of Cincinnati has raised questions about the experience and training of officers who patrol those campuses.
