UPDATE: Court approves WVU purchase of Beckley campus pending 30-day appeal window

Mountain State University’s final settlement has not yet been approved, but a mass litigation panel of judges on Friday approved West Virginia University’s $8 million offer to purchase the Beckley campus.
Judges also approved Viking Way Holdings LLC’s $2 million offer to purchase the MSU Martinsburg campus.

Judge Alan Moats, chairman of the mass litigation panel, said the Beckley sale was “fair, reasonable and adequate” and not just because of monetary purposes, but also for intangible reasons.
He said MSU students who perhaps did not get a chance to complete their education will have an ability to continue in that location.

“That is a benefit that cannot be quantified.”

WVU President Dr. Gordon Gee said in a release, “We are truly delighted to have this opportunity to better serve the people of this state by having a presence in Beckley. We look forward to creating collaborative and unique educational experiences for all students of West Virginia.”
