Minneapolis School District Plans to Review All Suspensions of “Black and Brown” Students
So principals can now suspend white students as usual, but to suspend a “black or brown” student, they’d have to go through the superintendent first.

Minneapolis Public Schools are implementing a new policy aimed at eliminating the gap between the races when it comes to suspensions. Nothing will change for white students, they will still be suspended at the discretion of each school’s principal. But for minority students, specifically black, Hispanic and Native American students, the Minneapolis Schools Superintendent’s office will personally review each case.
This new policy is part of an agreement with U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights announced last week after an investigation into why minority students made up such a high percentage suspended students in the past.
Superintendent Bernadeia Johnson told NPR, “I and all of my staff will start to review all non-violent suspensions of students of color, especially black boys, to understand why they’re being suspended so we can help intervene with teachers, student leaders and help give them the targeted support they need for these students.”

It is perhaps telling that the Superintendent is quoted as stating: “I and all of my staff …” While the rules of grammar may have changed (or in the past it was just a matter of courtesy) placing the first person pronoun before the third person pronoun suggests an arrogance derived from all her fancy degrees that might have its genesis in affirmative action (i.e., the failure thereof). And, Bernadeia’s (apparently a contrived name without cultural meaning) decision to legitimize reverse discrimination in “Her” district suggests she must be a “darling” of Obama and Holder.
While I am not a fan of an over litigious society, this is just overt racism there is nothing “reverse” about it. The parents of White and Asian students should be screaming at the ACLU to file suit.
