In the piece below, Colin Snell of The College Conservative calls for a conservative media revolution and in doing so he makes a point I’ve been making for years. FOX News should put Red Eye on earlier.

With a few small programming changes, FOX News could give college students a real alternative to Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. More changes in American media are needed but this would be a great start.

Greg Gutfeld and his crew at Red Eye demolish CNN and other news networks in ratings at their current time slot of 3 AM. Imagine what they could do if the show was on at the same time as The Daily Show?

It Is Time for a Conservative Media Revolution

There is no question that the Left is represented in American media much more than the Right. With the exception of certain actors, shows, and networks, the media is almost exclusively liberal. It seems as if popular show hosts such as David Letterman, Jimmy Fallon, and Jon Stewart are on the White House payroll. If you are watching TV late at night, unless you are watching an O’Reilly Factor rerun, then most likely you’re watching a liberal comedian spew Keynesian talking points. If conservatives want their movements to gain momentum in the future, they need to make some headway into the Late Night Scene.

The media promotes all kinds of misconceptions and stereotypes about conservatives. You would think that we’re all over-serious nerds who lack social lives. However, I believe that conservative comedy and entertainment is on the rise. Watching FoxNews’s Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld gives me a good feeling about the future. The libertarian wit and humor of Gutfeld exposes the “tolerant” left for what they really are: whiners, wimps, and hypocrites. The show also features a revolving door of guest panelists, usually conservative comedians. It is a refreshing rebuttal of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Unfortunately, Red Eye airs at 3AM EST, making it tough to compete with the earlier late night shows. Even still, Red Eye has eclipsed some daytime shows in ratings several times, such as CNN’s John King USA and MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan and Andrea Mitchell.

Greg Gutfeld is becoming a staple in the conservative media market, but I am not satisfied with just that. I would love to see Red Eye moved to an earlier time slot to compete with the late night shows that seem to be sponsored by the White House. I also hope that we will one day see a conservative late night talk show host, or a conservative/libertarian answer to Saturday Night Live. If conservatives continue to let the Left control the comedy and entertainment industry, we will continue to lose votes, especially from younger voters. We need to promote the libertarian humor of programs such as Red Eye and Sirius XM’s Opie and Anthony Radio Show. This will help people who ordinarily wouldn’t tune in to conservative programming realize the hypocrisy of the liberal media and comedy market. It will also shatter the misconception that all conservatives are all up-tight and lack sense of humor! And at very least, it will be good to see programs that aren’t in complete awe and admiration of the President!
