College Degrees That Report High Underemployment
Really, it can happen to anyone. Despite a great education, regardless of which industry we work in, it’s possible to go through periods of being underemployed and unsatisfied with how our careers are faring.
When we talk about being ‘underemployed,’ we’re talking about workers that are skilled but working in low paying or low-skill jobs, as well as part-time workers that would prefer to be full-time. Essentially, the definition per Investopedia. Most of us go through this at one point or another.

Not all majors are equal. Some only exist to employ the profs who teach them.
First – this very subjective data. The “underemployed” numbers are based on the person’s opinion about whether he/she is “underemployed.”
Second, this list has numbers that appear to support a problem with the overall information, beyond this opinion-of-self-issue: it mostly represents people who have majors where there are few high paying jobs in the first place…..so of course, if they are working for less than they believe they should earn, then they would believe themselves “underemployed.” For example: a Theatre major should not expect to walk into a full-time job paying max rates; they need to start at the bottom, often being paid as a part-time person but working mega-hours to get either a union card or certification needed to be in the professional, hi-salaried positions. So, of COURSE they feel they’re “underemployed” – the believe that degree should open the door to the big, full-time positions, even though there are VERY few of them in the first place.
Very subjective, and borderline nonsense….since many of them may conflate “unemployed a lot” “not working in my field” and “underemployed.”

Most of these Forbes articles are click bait, they have interesting titles but are just standard fare. The magazine has gone far downhill after it was sold. Run by so called journalists that are mostly liberal hacks.
