Pre-college programs ease transition, open doors

Roommates, dorm food, early classes — the transition to college can be a bumpy one. Enter: pre-college programs, welcoming high school juniors and seniors to college campuses around the country for an introduction to living with strangers and doing their own laundry.

“I’ve been to summer camps before, but one week is very different than three weeks,” said Zariah Hawthorne, a rising high school senior from Greenville, S.C. “It’s a large learning experience, especially living in a traditional (residential) hall.”
