Oxford Adds Access for Those From Less Affluent Households
“In offering new places, we’re not reducing anyone else’s chances of gaining a place – we’re creating a new opportunity for new students.”

An Oxford College Strikes A Blow For Social Mobility
An Oxford college has struck a blow for social mobility by allocating places specially for students from deprived families.
University College, which counts the poet Percy Shelley and novelists C.S. Lewis and V.S. Naipaul among its alumni, announced this week that it was creating extra places for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The move comes amid growing pressure on Oxford to widen access to groups that have been underrepresented among its students in the past, including those from less affluent households.
