A piece of artwork stolen from a Reed College building over the weekend was found Wednesday with an estimated $1,500 to $2,000 in damage, according to a college spokesman.
A college community safety officer found the teak carving, valued at $15,000, in the northwest part of campus around 7 a.m., said college spokesman Kevin Myers.
He said the piece, created by artist Leroy Setziol, weighs more than 100 pounds and is about 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide. It was given to the college by a late college trustee and his wife and had been hanging in Eliot Hall for more than 10 years, Myers said.
It sustained minor abrasions and a bit of damage to a corner but can be restored, he said.
