Michigan college fires its president 4 months after her hiring

BENTON HARBOR, MI — The president of Lake Michigan College has been fired only four months into her tenure after she allegedly spent $20,000 on her inauguration ceremony, travel unrelated to the college and office renovations, among other unauthorized expenses.
Jennifer Spielvogel was suspended from the community college on April 8 and the board foreshadowed its intent to fire the leader it hired from Cleveland’s Cuyahoga Community College in January.

Spielvogel’s termination came this week, Cleveland.com reported.

College records indicate a tumultuous start and quick end to Spielvogel’s administrative work at the school, which has about 4,200 students across four campuses in Berrien County.
