Vassar president to leave position at college

Vassar College President Catharine Hill has announced she will conclude her presidency of the school at the end of the 2017 academic year.

In an emailed letter to faculty, students, staff and alumni, Hill said her leaving the position was outlined “when I signed my current contract in 2012.” Following her departure from the presidency on June 30, 2017, Hill will be on sabbatical through the fall semester of 2017.

Announcing the resignation a year prior “provides adequate time for the search process to be put in place this spring and to proceed smoothly over the next academic year,” Hill said. The new president is expected to be appointed to begin July 2017, according to a statement released by the college.
