University of North Dakota Prof Calls 911 Over ROTC on Campus
Sometimes the special snowflakes on campus are the professors. This is unreal.
The Grand Forks Herald has the story.
LETTER: Military maneuvers startle already-stressed UND campus
Apparently, it’s not enough that UND’s administration is attacking the quality of education by cutting programs and experienced faculty and jacking class sizes. Now, we must also feel under physical attack as well.
I look up from my office computer to see two figures in camo with guns outside my window. My first thought is for my students’ and my safety: I grab my phone, crawl under my desk and call 911. The dispatcher keeps me on the line until someone can see if ROTC is doing maneuvers.
I can barely talk—first, with fear, and then with rage when the dispatcher reports back that yes, in fact, I’ve probably just seen ROTC cadets, though they’re going to send an officer to check because no one has cleared it with them. They thank me for reporting it.
A few minutes later, a university officer calls me back—not to reassure me, but to scold me for calling 911. He says ROTC has permission to do this exercise. When I tell him that this was news to 911 and that they encouraged me to call whenever I see a gun on campus, he seems surprised.
He also tells me that ROTC will be doing these exercises for the next couple weeks.
So I reply that I guess I’ll be calling 911 for the next couple weeks—and I will. Every time.
It’s not my job to decide whether people carrying guns at school are an actual threat. It’s my job to teach and to get home to my family.
It’s already highly inappropriate to conduct unnecessary military maneuvers in the middle of the quad. But with school shootings on the increase and tensions at UND running high, it’s especially irresponsible.

“University of North Dakota”
Are you sure this isn’t the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople?
I suppose he will have to call 911 every time he sees an armed campus police officer too; he said he intends to call 911 every time he sees a gun on campus after all. Or maybe, just maybe, this professor is harboring an anti-military bias that defies consistent, logical reasoning.
Professor Heidi Czerwiec demonstrates that intelligence and wisdom don’t always go hand in hand.
Go to college and hide there for the rest of your life, safe from reality. Way to live your life, lady.
When I was at Georgia Tech back in the 60’s, it was my understanding that all “Land Grant” colleges and universities required all male students (with certain exceptions such as age or prior military service) had to participate in basic ROTC in their freshman and sophomore years. It seemed like most colleges and universities, not to mention high schools had ROTC. How strange that we actually respected the military in those days. Of course we were children of WW-II and our parents had been there.
This prof would have gone catatonic on Thursday drill day when the campus was swarming with cadets in their uniforms. It wasn’t worth the trouble to change after parade so we mostly just went to class in uniform.
Memory fades, but it seems that we gathered at the armory to be issued our M1’s and then marched in formation to the drill field. God, hundreds of armed soldiers marching through “Fraternity Row”.
Well the special snowflake should probably leave go on SSI and seek counseling. She is an ass, a hoplophbe and supremely ignorant.
If I had a teacher who could not separate the reality of ROTC students and terrorists taking over the school I would call the police every time I saw her. She’s delusional and likely to be dangerous. She purports to believe that the ROTC are terrorists.
She needs a minder and special care. Or she could be a histrionic, hyperbolic lying leftist. Either way if you act like a mental patient that believes uniformed me are out to get you, you should be treated like one.
