Republicans push for college affordability
Wisconsin Republicans have plans to make college more affordable for UW and technical college students.
They have a package of bills sailing through the legislature that would lift the cap on tax-deductible student loan interest, boost emergency grants for UW and technical college students and help students find more internships.
Democrats say the bills won’t do enough, but the president of UW Colleges is grateful to see action on the problem he hears about every day.
“What’s really encouraging right now I think we’re building a new partnership with the legislature. What you’re hearing a portion of the legislature is talking about is student debt, that’s a common conversation right now. Another portion including the governor is talking about how do we reduce the cost for students?” Said Ray Cross, president of UW Colleges.

It isn’t a politicians’ job to make anything affordable. Get the gov out and let the market decide. College is too expensive because of gov intervention.
