Police: College student said shooting threat was ‘all a joke’
A college student accused of threatening to shoot up her school campus says she is not guilty.
Channel 2 Action News had the only camera in the Newton County courtroom as Emily Sakamoto, 21, pleaded not guilty to two counts of felony terroristic threats.
Sakamoto did her best to hide from our camera, putting her hand over her face and standing behind her attorney before walking away.
“Obviously she’s in a very vulnerable situation emotionally,” her attorney, Jay Abt, told Channel 2’s Tom Jones.
The former Emory Oxford College student is accused of going on the social media app Yik Yak in October and saying, “I’m shooting up the school tomorrow. Stay in your rooms. The ones on the quad are the ones who will go first.”
In court documents, Sakamoto says she was joking when she made the threat and didn’t know that making threats on social media was a crime.
