NYC University Student Faces Backlash After Threatening Classmate Over Trump Sticker on Social Media: Report

A student at St. John’s University in Queens, N.Y., sparked outrage online after threatening to smash a fellow student’s computer because of a Donald Trump presidential-campaign sticker, the Daily Mail reports.

The student in question, whom the Daily Mail says was identified online as Clifford Durand, tweeted an image of the female student behind her laptop around 10 a.m. with the caption, “7000 retweets and i’ll smash this bitch’s computer.” The message was, in fact, retweeted more than 7,000 times, ultimately going viral. In fact, the tweet garnered so much attention that the female student, who has yet to be identified, saw it and reportedly confronted Durand, who boasted about the confrontation.

According to the Daily Mail, in a now deleted tweet, Durand wrote, “She threw her Starbucks at me and got shoved in the neck.” The confrontation reportedly started when the woman asked Durand to remove his tweet, to which he said, “Make me.” It is unclear whether the woman threw her coffee first or Durand pushed her first.

Durand, whose social media account has since been suspended, was immediately slammed online for the tweet.

St. John’s University did not directly address the alleged altercation but did send out tweets Wednesday, acknowledging that an incident was reported, the Daily Mail notes.

“This type of behavior will not be tolerated. Public Safety is handling the situation,” the tweets read. “Safety is our top priority. Any student in violation of our Code of Conduct is subject to our conduct process.”
