Western New England University’s Office of Spiritual Life recently unveiled a new prayer space for Muslim students on campus.
Located in Rivers Memorial Hall, the prayer room gives students of Muslim faith a dedicated place to pray during the school day.
An event was held to bring students and staff of the Muslim faith together, and to spread awareness of the Islamic religion to other students, staff and faculty on campus.
According to the university, Muslim students gave a presentation of the basic tenets of the faith, led a question and answer discussion, and demonstrated the use of the new prayer space.
“The event today is to reach out to everyone on campus, to educate them about the Islamic faith, and correct any misconceptions they may have,” said Sanah Bibi, a senior biology major and Muslim student from West Springfield. “It’s also to make Muslim brothers and sisters aware of the new prayer room we have, and to celebrate our new space.”
