Didn’t the media recently criticize Ben Carson for suggesting you should fight back in an attack?

One university in Florida is telling students the same thing.

The Washington Post reports.

After a possible violent threat, a university tells its students to ‘run, hide, fight’

On Thursday, Florida International University officials alerted the campus community to a threat reported that the school “would be on the news tonight.”

They didn’t lock down or cancel events. Instead they included links to printable “pocket cards” with advice about what to do if there were an active shooter, asked everyone to be aware of and report any possible threats, and to run, hide or fight if an attack were to happen.

The message included a video clip of “RUN. HIDE. FIGHT. Surviving an Active Shooter Event,” from the city of Houston, that shows a man walking into a room and shooting people, as screams echo. The narrator advises people to flee and find a concealed spot. “As a last resort,” he says, as a man picks up chairs and a woman sobs and collapses in a corner, “commit to taking the shooter down, no matter what.”

As the actor playing the gunman breaks into the room, people attack him with mugs, a fire extinguisher, a chair.

In a statement later Thursday, university officials wrote: “There is no verifiable or actionable threat. However, FIUPD is working diligently to make sure that our community remains safe.”
