Sex sting puts Dartmouth College professor’s future at Brown in question

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A Dartmouth College associate professor is on paid leave and his appointment to Brown University is under review after his arrest in a sex sting in Coventry.

Stephon Alexander, 44, a tenured physics professor, was one of seven men charged in “Operation Front Page,” a sting by police in Coventry and West Greenwich to crack down on customers answering ads for sex posted on Backpage .com. The website is often used by sex traffickers, according to police, to sell girls and women into prostitution. All seven were charged with procurement of sexual conduct for a fee, a misdemeanor.

Alexander was the only man from out of state charged in Thursday’s sting. The Hanover, N.H., resident was a visiting scholar at Brown University during the fall semester, according to a university spokesman.
