Smith College Will Review Media Access Policies
After reporters were banned from a student sit-in, Smith will revisit their media access policies.

Smith College to review media access policies following ban on reporters at sit-in
Following a ban on reporters at a Smith College sit-in Wednesday imposed by student activists and upheld by administration, the school says it plans to review its media access policies.
The sit-in was organized in solidarity with students of color at the University of Missouri, echoing similar demonstrations held across the country this month in the wake of racially charged episodes this fall at Mizzou.
Student organizers at the event told MassLive around 4 p.m. it could not cover the event, as it would compromise their efforts to create a “safe space” for students to share their feelings. When asked if other outlets were covering the sit-in, organizers said that publications that agreed to explicitly state support for the movement in their articles were permitted to stay, take photos and interview participants.
The sit-in was held from 1 p.m. to midnight.
