Rubio: ‘A Student Loan Is Worse’ Than Indentured Servitude
During an appearance at St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., on Wednesday, GOP presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said taking out a student loan is worse than indentured servitude.
“A student loan is worse. You still owe the money. The difference is if you don’t pay back the investment group, you have a contract, and they can obviously have legal remedies for it. If you don’t pay back your loan, it ruins your credit. They’ll collect on you for the rest of your life,” said Rubio. “Because they’re federally backed, they’ll garnish your wages. They’ll take it out of your tax return if necessary, so I think it’s way better than the issue of whether you want a student loan.”

Rubio has gone off the deep end. Nobody forced students to get a loan. Nobody forced students to go to over priced elite schools and pay outrageous prices. Young people need to take responsibility for their actions. The ones who have not yet done the stupid thing and pay these costs need to be apprised of what they are getting into. We should educate, not absolve.
College is a good which should be purchased at a reasonable price for the skills obtained. No one forced students to borrow more than they can pay back while studying useless majors which have no value in the market place. The fact that any presidential candidate thinks that gov should be involved means that there is already too much gov involved where is has no constitutional authority to be. How about we get the federal gov back to only those things which the Constitution allows it to do and that doesn’t involve doing anything with education.
