College students packed buses and headed out to see Pope Francis.

From the South Bend Tribune:

A papal pilgrimage for local college students

They climbed aboard buses with anticipation, ready to join hundreds of thousands of Catholic faithful who are crowding into Philadelphia this weekend.

For the South Bend area college students, the draw, of course, is Pope Francis and his historic visit to the United States, which culminates today with the World Meeting of Families and a special Mass.

University of Notre Dame senior Monica Gorman, from Hyattsville, Md., was among more than 500 Notre Dame students and employees who left campus Saturday for a papal pilgrimage to Philadelphia.

She’s been anticipating the large outdoor Mass the pope will celebrate at 4 p.m. near the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The worship service is expected to draw more than 1 million people. Francis is in Philadelphia as part of the World Meeting of Families, the world’s largest Catholic gathering of families, which is held every three years.

Gorman expects a vibrant atmosphere.
