Police seek felony charges for threat to kill Kalamazoo College faculty

KALAMAZOO, MI — Police are seeking felony charges for an online threat to kill Kalamazoo College faculty earlier this year.

Kalamazoo Public Safety investigators are seeking charges of making a threat of terrorism and using a computer to commit a crime against one person in connection with the March 3 incident, Lt. David O’Strander said.

Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting said his office reviewed the case and sent it back to police Wednesday for further investigation before making a decision on charges.

“It’s a complicated case and we need to take sufficient time to review it and make sure we understand the facts,” he said.

Making a threat of terrorism is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and using a computer to commit a crime is punishable by up to four years.

Police and prosecutors declined to say who charges are being sought against in the case. However, police reports and search warrants obtained by the Kalamazoo Gazette under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act show that two K-College students quickly became the focus of the KDPS investigation of the online threat.
