A large domestic and international network of libertarian students is being been created.

Something Is Happening in the Student Liberty Movement… And It’s Big!

The two largest libertarian student organizations in the world, Students For Liberty (SFL) and Young Americans for Liberty (YAL), may soon be more connected then they have ever been before.

Both organizations began to form in the wake of the 2008 election, eight years into the post 9/11 American surveillance state, where an entire generation of young Americans grew up during the rise of constant war, growing federal and global powers, corporate cronyism, and the growth of the police state. All this happened while civil liberties and constitutionally protected freedoms began to disappear before our very eyes.

Alexander McCobin, a young man in college at the time, began to espouse classical liberal virtues and objectivist ideas when his father gave him a copy of Atlas Shrugged as a child. Eager to find other fiscally responsible and socially tolerant students on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, McCobin began to reach out to students both at UPENN and the region to form a non-profit organization which would not only effect the lives of college students in America, but also the world, spreading to continents ranging from Asia to Africa.

According to Students For Liberty’s website:

“Students For Liberty was founded in 2008 by a group of students who wanted to make a difference by supporting their fellow libertarian students on campus. Libertarian student groups had long been isolated from one another and the larger liberty movement. The initial Students For Liberty Conference at Columbia University was originally planned for around 30 students, but demand far exceeded those estimates and 100 students ended up attending the conference in spite of a blizzard that shut down most of the region.”
