IU student ditches law school for stand-up comedy major
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — An Indiana University student is trading his law textbooks for a microphone stand to create his own stand-up comedy major — the first of its kind in the nation.
Rob Sherrell — a senior at the university’s Bloomington campus — started his college career with the aspirations of becoming a lawyer until he performed in the university’s Union Board Show, “Random Acts of Comedy.”
From there, everything changed.
At first, Sherrell’s mother wasn’t a fan of the idea of ditching his pre-law track to study stand-up comedy, but he says once she saw that he was serious, she grew to be one of his biggest supporters.
“She was actually pretty distraught and disappointed when she found out because this was the path I had been on my entire life — a path that was pretty stable,” Sherrell said. “If I had graduated from IU and went to law school, I would probably get a job somewhere, but this is a path that has no specific stability. A path that has no foundation laid for me. I’m pretty much flying blind here because the world of entertainment is not necessarily known.”

If you mosey on over to FOX, you can see a lot of lawyers that have turned to broadcasting. I submit that anybody who manages to graduate from law school ought to be able to tell a good story.
Hey, Al Franken jumped to Senate, maybe Rob Sherrell can do the same.
