Universities across the state raising tuition
A report by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities says Alabama has cut higher education funding by 37% statewide, ranking the state fifth in the nation for such cuts. Some universities say that is a major part of why tuition is increasing.
Athens State University’s tuition has increased by 2.8%. Auburn University increased their tuition by 2.5%.
Friday the University of Alabama and and UAB’s board of trustees voted to increase tuition by 3.5-4%.
UAH students will see a 3 to 4% increase in tuition this year as well, and next Friday Alabama A&M’s board of trustees will vote on increasing tuition.
The University of North Alabama increased tuition by 4% for next semester a few weeks ago.
“Tuition has been steadily increasing since my time here at UNA,” said James Harbin, a UNA student.
