Diddy arrested on suspicion of assault on University of California campus

The rapper and hip-hop producer Diddy was arrested on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles on Monday, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police have said.

Diddy, 45, whose real name is Sean Combs, was arrested at UCLA’s Acosta Athletic Training Complex shortly after 12.30pm, according to a statement from campus police. He was later released on bail.

The weapon was a kettlebell, which is used by athletes in weight training. No one was seriously injured and campus police are investigating. Officials did not identify the victim of the suspected assault, or specify what led to the incident.

Combs’ son Justin is a junior defensive back on the UCLA football team, which has been training on campus. He has played a small number of times in his three years with the team.

The UCLA football team also signed the wide-receiver Cordell Broadus, who is the son of the rapper Snoop Dogg, in February. Broadus will officially join the team alongside Justin Combs in September.

The team’s coach, Jim Mora, thanked his staff following Monday’s incident for their professionalism in handling the situation.

“This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved,” Mora said. “While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time.”
