The Top Up-And-Coming Cities For Recent College Grads

It’s a message that’s being communicated loud and clear to recent college graduates: For the best combination of job opportunities and manageable costs, don’t limit your employment search to the coasts.

To identify the cities gaining traction with recent college graduates, job search site ZipRecruiter looked at cities with below-average costs of living, low competition, a high percentage of open jobs for candidates with a college degree, and high concentrations of young, single residents.

According to Scott Garner, ZipRecruiter’s content marketing and communications manager, factors that “weren’t as easily quantifiable” were also taken into consideration, such as whether a city has an arts festival, hiking trails, a music scene, and other activities and diversions that appeal to young professional.

At the top of the list is Sioux Falls, South Dakota. According to ZipRecruiter, marketing, management, and healthcare are the top three industries, with jobs like territory manager and CNA caregiver available at the entry level. The city also offers affordable living–median rent is $815 per month, roughly $500 below than the national average.
