What will happen to Heald?

KITV reports.

Students of Heald College weigh options as school’s future is in doubt.

HONOLULU —Hawaii Medical College in Honolulu is offering its services to current and former students of Heald college, a school that recently was hit with severe fines by the U.S. Department of Education. The owner of Heald College, Corinthian Colleges, was recently fined $30 million for what amounts to a pattern of falsifying post-graduate employment data. Heald is no longer able to accept new students and is looking for a buyer. Current students are able to stay at the college to complete their degree.

KITV 4 spoke with one Heald student who transferred out because of the school’s uncertain future.

“I actually did have a good experience at Heald. I returned for a second program there but now with all this talk going on I feel like maybe I should not continue on,” said Kelly former Heald College student.

Other for-profit schools in the area, including Hawaii Medical College, are happy to extend their services to former and current Heald college students.

“We’ve had much more interest than usual because of this situation and we’ve been telling them we’ll do all that we can to help based on the programs that we offer,” said Ashton Cudjoe President of Hawaii Medical College.
