Elon University investigating report of hazing

Elon University says it is investigating allegations of hazing by the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity in its new member education program.

In a statement from the university, it says the activities of the fraternity have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. This includes any formal or informal new members meetings, activities, or meetings of the chapter, such as brotherhood events, chapter meetings, philanthropy or social events.

The university-owned fraternity house assigned to Pi Kappa Phi on campus will remain open only for the members who live in the facility; no new members reside in the house.

University officials say they are working closely with the Pi Kappa Phi National Office on the investigation. Greek Life staff is working with the men in the chapter to make sure they are fully informed of the situation and processes involved.

Elon says it is taking the allegations seriously and working expeditiously to complete a through investigation and make appropriate responses.
