Richard Wheeler of the Carolina Review is not a fan of Senator Kay Hagan. In a new post, he calls her out.

Hagan’s Hypocrisy

One of the most pressing issues in current American foreign affairs is undoubtedly the serious threat posed by the Islamic State (ISIS). This ever growing organization continues to produce brash videos detailing their opposition of American support of Israel and calling for an end to airstrikes in Iraq. Included in many of these videos is the barbaric and gruesome beheading of western captives, such as American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff and British aid worker David Haines.

In an interview with David Remnick published in the January 27, 2014 issue of the New Yorker, President Obama ignored the growing threat posed by the terrorist group, flippantly labeling the organization as a “jayvee team.” The President’s remarks have recently resurfaced in the face of the threat posed by ISIS to neighboring countries and the United States, drawing serious criticism from both outside and inside of his own party.

With the Senate election looming, many Democrat senators locked in tight races have recently taken stances in opposition to President Obama’s retroactive and clearly ineffective foreign policy. Kay Hagan is one of those senators, stating, “The President should have weaponized the moderate Syrian rebels earlier,” in the first debate with her challenger Thom Tillis. She asserts, “Without doing that, it has allowed ISIS to grow.”

This newfound criticism of the President comes as a surprise to many, considering the Congressional Quarterly reports Kay Hagan voting with President Obama 96 percent of the time. In an interview with CBS on October 18, 2008, Kay Hagan commented on Senator Dole’s voting record, claiming that she “votes with Bush 92 percent of the time. And that’s not working for people in North Carolina.” Why then, if voting down party lines does not work for North Carolina, would Senator Hagan vote with President Obama even more than Senator Dole voted with President Bush? Nonetheless, she has recently stepped out in opposition to the President’s handling of the ISIS situation.
