Ben Sasse cruises to victory in Nebraska Senate race

Republican Ben Sasse cruised to victory Tuesday in Nebraska, ensuring both of the state’s U.S. Senate seats remain in GOP hands.

Mr. Sasse handily defeated Democrat Dave Domina, an attorney who has led the fight in Nebraska against the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline. The two men were vying to fill the seat being vacated by the retiring Sen. Mike Johanns, a Republican.

“[T]he only reason to spend 13 months living on a smelly RV was to be boldly fighting for an American renewal. As time went on, ‘Go big or go home’ became the daily battle cry of this campaign — and you responded. I am so grateful to Nebraskans, not for the outcome of this one passing election, but for repeatedly telling us that you want politicians in Washington who know that we cannot afford to just trim around the edges,” Mr. Sasse said in his victory speech. “My party needs more messengers who will stand by their principles, but who also are able to articulate a shared vision of the American dream for everyone.”
