Prof Links UCSB Shooter’s Misogyny with Christianity
You knew it was just a matter of time before someone on the left said this, right?

Prof Links UCSB Shooter’s Misogyny with Christianity’s ‘Strict Gender Roles’
A professor has linked the misogynistic mindset of UCSB assailant Elliot Rodger with the “strict gender roles” found among Christian conservatives.
While the educator acknowledged Rodger was not directly influenced by Christianity in an opinion column she penned Tuesday for ReligionDispatches.org, the professor asserts he was influenced by the modern day pick-up artist culture, which she says shares similar viewpoints on gender roles with conservative Christianity.
“Many commentators have discussed the ‘pick up artist’ (PUA) culture in which Rodger’s ideology is based, but broader cultural forces shape the exaggerated ideas of gender roles that are the foundation of Rodger’s misguided notions of masculinity and entitlement—including most conservative Christian constructions of strict gender roles,” writes Devin Kuhn-Choi, assistant professor in the religious studies program and the women’s and gender studies department at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
“Though they approach beliefs about masculinity from different perspectives, both PUA and contemporary portrayals of conservative Christian masculinity share some similar points,” she continues. “… What I want to suggest through these comparisons is a larger cultural framework that shapes American notions of masculinity and sexuality.”

How wonderful it is when the stupid just can’t refrain from telling the whole world how stupid they are.
Pick-up artist culture? Really? A very interesting article, I believe in this blog, explained how the very idea of dating is lost in colleges, presumably as a result of the influence of people like the professor. Had he lived in the culture the Professor describes, he could have simply tried his luck until he finally found someone. (It worked for me, happily married, and I’m probably twice as inept socially as he was.)
My apologies to all for giving an explanation for something that should simply be condemned as the act of a sociopathic (and slightly mentally ill) murderer. But as long as these idiots are going to give “root causes”, they ought to look in the mirror.
If the professor thinks Christians have “strict gender roles”, he ought to look at practically every other religion and culture in the world, and he’ll probably find them a lot stronger. (Mine, for example.)
If anything, the “pick up artist” philosophy, like the playboy philosophy before it, is a repudiation of Christian values as I have heard them described in the Catholic church, as well as various Lutheran and Baptist churches. The professor seems to think that because the Christian religions acknowledge that men don’t have babies, and so play a protective role toward women when they need protection, Christians and pick up artists are the same. This is nonsense. It is a crucial difference between the pick up artist philosophy and all Christian viewpoints that Christians require respect and love for women, while pick-up artists fundamentally disrespect women and treat them like “targets,” to use their own word.
This article makes as much sense as the claim that because Christians embrace the commandment “thou shalt not kill” they are the source of terrorism, because terrorists kill people for political purposes.
The cognitive dissonance is deafening.
Linking misogyny to Christianity? ROFLMAO. The nutty prof did that cuz he doesn’t have the balls to point to Islam.
