Common Core Author Says He Did it to End White Privilege
But don’t worry, there’s absolutely no leftist political agenda in Common Core.

A teacher told attendees at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics Monday night that he helped write the controversial Common Core education standards to end white privilege.
Dr. David Pook, a professor at Granite State College and chair of the History department at The Derryfield School in Manchester, New Hampshire, argued in favor of Common Core.
“The reason why I helped write the standards and the reason why I am here today is that as a white male in society I am given a lot of privilege that I didn’t earn.”
Ironically, the $28,535 per year Derryfield School that Dr. Pook teaches at considers the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) inferior and does not use them on the student body that is 91% white.

Common Core is a standardized list of subjects that students should have mastered (more or less) by various grades. It is also a set of suggested methodologies and texts for teaching those subjects, and a set of tests to evaluate students’ success in learning them.
The major criticisms of Common Core are:
(1) It is another attempt by the Feds to control education, which in America has historically been considered a matter best left under local control; and
(2) It’s just another busybody government program, and like all such, is being inflicted on the Great American Public without any serious reason to believe that it is well thought out, or any evidence that it will do the job it’s supposed to do.
What I don’t see is what it will do about the dreaded White Privilege, even if there is such an animal. According to conventional thinking, the white and Asian students are going to mop the floor with all the others, no matter what educational innovations, good or bad, are imposed on them.
