While teachers unions often claim they are victims of conservative policies, at least one seems to be the victim of a rogue assistant principal.

An assistant principal who works at a New York high school in ritzy Westchester County was charged Wednesday with grand larceny after being accused of stealing almost $800,000 from the teachers union that he served as treasurer.

NBC News reported that Frank Gluberman, 66, was accused by prosecutors of stealing from the Greenburgh Teacher’s Federation and from the Greenburgh Teacher’s Welfare Fund — both of which receive taxpayer money. The two groups help pay for dental, vision and legal services for teachers and staffers in the district.

Prosecutors say Mr. Gluberman siphoned the money between 2006 and 2013, when he served as treasurer, NBC reported. He is accused of writing checks to himself and to his two daughters from both of the accounts, forging the signature of the union president. The actual amount he’s accused of stealing: $778,995, NBC said.

“His cynical raiding of the welfare fund of hundreds of thousands of dollars comes at a time of tight school budgets and dishonors the teachers and administrators who work diligently and professionally on a daily basis in the Greenburgh school system,” Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore said, NBC reported.
