I couldn’t think of a better way to kick off 2014 on Canto Talk than by chatting with my College Insurrection compatriot, Aleister. We had a chance to discuss the high (and low) points of 2013 on American campuses — and what 2014 is likely for our nation’s students.

We started out by reviewing the current batch of failures associated with the American media: Dropping the coverage of the revelations of political gamesmanship and incompetence revealed by former defense secretary Robert Gates in his latest book, Duty, to participate in the media feeding frenzy that has become #BridgeGate.

Aleister and I also covered our favorite College Insurrection stories of 2013 (Aleister’s Top 10, Leslie’s Top 10).

Aleister gave the background on his #1 pick: 15 Conservatives You Wish Had Spoken At Your College Graduation. He noticed the dearth of conservative speakers formally invited to give the graduation addresses, and prepared a list of  dream choices that included prominent pundits and politicians — living and dead, as these picks were “fantasy”. The notables include Sarah Palin, Andrew Breitbart, and Greg Gutfeld.

For 2014, Aleister and I will come up with another list of our recommendations for conservative speakers that colleges should seriously consider. Hopefully, we can really help promote true “diversity” so obviously lacking in graduation ceremonies. Interested readers can make their own  suggestions in the comment section below.

The stories I featured last night focused on students and faculty fighting back against progressive policies. I asserted that we will be seeing more counterattacks on the “War on Men”, continuing disdain for formal and expensive “diversity programs”, and more faculty rebellion against blatant liberalism before 2014 closes.

We look forward to sharing these stories with you, and having Aleister on again soon for another report on Canto Talk.
