Obama Fail: Youth Unemployment Remains High at 15.9%

Generation Opportunity released its Millennial Jobs Report for October 2013. The economy remains stagnant for 18-29 year olds:

According to the report, “The effective (U6) unemployment rate for 18-29 year olds, which adjusts for labor force participation by including those who have given up looking for work, is 15.9 percent (NSA).”

And the numbers look even worse when you count all those who’ve simply given up looking for work. “The declining labor force participation rate has created an additional 1.8 million young adults that are not counted as “unemployed” by the U.S. Department of Labor because they are not in the labor force” the report says.

“Looks like another month of lousy job creation and opportunity being stolen from my generation,” said Evan Feinberg, president of Generation Opportunity.

Obama came into office as a hero to a majority of 18-29 year-old voters. Now those young voters are learning the hard way what the consequences of liberalism are. They can’t find work. And skyrocketing health insurance premiums–thanks to Obamacare–will be a big burden for young people as they set out to establish their lives and careers.

The youthful shimmer of the Obama candidacy in 2008 has dulled considerably in the last five years. And the legacy of “Hope & Change” has turned out to be rather hapless, and maybe, hopeless for many young people who once supported the president.
