JCTC employee claims he was fired for complaining about wrongdoing

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The former director of human resources at Jefferson Community and Technical College has filed a lawsuit against the school and its president claiming he was fired in 2012 for his political views and complaints about alleged wrongdoing.

Kent Robinson claims he protested the hiring of a person convicted of sex offenses and objected to the continued employment of a supervisor who had admitted creating fraudulent time records, signing false time sheets for employees and lying in order to obligate JCTC “to a multi-million dollar contract with Jefferson County Public Schools.”

Robinson also claims in the lawsuit that a JCTC employee engaged in racial discrimination against an African-American employee and the school failed to discipline a faculty member who was caught in a sex act with a same-sex prostitute during schools hours on campus.

In each instance, Robinson’s “input and advice” was ignored by JCTC and were a “motivating factor” in his termination, according to the lawsuit.

Claims made in filing a lawsuit present only one side of the case.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Jefferson Circuit Court, also named school president Anthony Newberry.

Lisa Brosky, a spokesperson for JCTC, said she could not comment on pending litigation.

Also in the lawsuit, Robinson claims he was fired for his “sincerely held religious beliefs and practices,” including the expression of opinions concerning homosexuality, conservative political views, “public displays of support for Republican candidates” and opposition to the Democratic candidate for president and the Democratic party.

The lawsuit states Robinson performed his duties competently but was fired Nov. 27, 2012 without just cause, violating his freedom of speech and religion.
