Former Terrorist Bill Ayers to give ‘queering education’ speech at Gettysburg College
The last time we checked in with terrorist-turned professor Bill Ayers, he was upset that people were equating the bombings that he and others in the Weather Underground did 40 or so years ago with the April 15 twin bombings in Boston that killed three people.
Now, he is planning to give his own “Gettysburg Address” on a truly progressive topic:
Bill Ayers, a professor known for engaging in terrorist activities in the 1970s, is set to speak at Gettysburg College (GC) next Tuesday, Campus Reform has learned.
According to the event’s poster, Ayers will deliver a speech on “queering education” which will be sponsored by nGender, a program at GC that meets bi-weekly to “dialogue on gender issues,” according to the school’s official website.
Ayers is known for his leadership of the Weather Underground, a group which bombed public buildings in the 1960’s and 1970’s to protest involvement of the United States military in the Vietnam War.
Later in life, Ayers became a professor of education at the University of Illinois-Chicago, where he wrote on education theory.
Tim Meads, a student at GC, told Campus Reform he supports Ayers’ right to speak but is ashamed the school would invite such a divisive speaker who is unrepentant of his terrorist past.
“Why our social justice department would invite a man who used violence as ways of furthering his goals is beyond me,” he said. “The students need to know his radical and violent past and that he is not remorseful.”
GC administrators did not respond to requests for comment from Campus Reform in time for publication.

I am an alumnus of Gettysburg College with fond memories of my days there. This move, however, is the final straw. I contacted the College this morning and asked them to remove my name and address from their files and to withhold any future mailings, solicitations and alumni newsletters. The worst part of this is not that they invited an unrepentant domestic terrorist to speak at a (supposedly) Christian school. Rather, it is that they would only invite a particular type of terrorist–one who is in intellectual agreement with them. Do you suppose that, in the early 1960’s, Gettysburg College would have invited the Klansmen who blew up a black church full of children to speak on any topic? Disgraceful.
