Katie Pavlich of TownHall.com points to a new poll which suggests American college students may be a bit more libertarian than previously thought.

Overwhelming Majority of College Students Want Government Out of Their Lives

A new poll shows the vast majority of college-age students was the government to stay out of their lives. More from Adam Tragone:

In a survey launched by Young America’s Foundation and conducted by the polling company, Kellyanne Conway, Inc.,  more than 60 percent of college-age students feel that government should not take an active role in their day-to-day-lives, and half of respondents believe that the federal government is mostly hurting economic recovery.

So, why then did the majority of college-age students vote for Barack Obama? For a few reasons, but here are two of them.

1. Barack Obama sold this age demographic a false bill of goods. He used rhetoric that made it seem like conservatives are interested in controlling their lives through government, while he is actually the one who supports policies that require big government intervention.

2. Conservatives and Republicans aren’t explaining or selling freedom in the right way.

“If you can’t sell freedom and liberty, you suck!” –Andrew Breitbart

The good news is this poll presents an opportunity. Let’s just hope the political operatives and consultants find a better way to communicate. The youth vote is up for grabs and it is important not to assume these kinds of voters are always interested in more government because, they aren’t.
