Tennessee State Senator Whips-Up Opposition to University’s Sex Week
Representative troubled by use of fees to pay for lesbian bondage expert.
The University of Tennessee recently hosted a “Sex Week” that featured a workshop given by a bondage expert.
In the wake of a weak economy and tight funding, one of the state senators wants to reconsider the school’s budget.
Tennessee State Sen. Stacey Campfield has asked his peers to reconsider their recent vote approving the University of Tennessee’s school budget in the wake of news about the school’s upcoming “sex week,” which is slated to include a lesbian bondage expert and other extremely sexual events.
Citing a March 14 column written by Todd Starnes, Campfield says in a note to fellow members of the Senate Education Committee that “I think it is well in order for us to reconsider our actions (passing the UT budget on Wednesday) and would like to make that motion so UT can either verify or deny publicly these incredible allegations.”
“If you have any problem with my making that motion I ask that you contact me so I can understand your reasoning.”
Starnes’ column stated in part that:
A lesbian bondage expert and a campus-wide condom scavenger hunt are among the activities planned for The University of Tennessee’s first-ever “Sex Week” – an event paid for in-part by student fees.
Sex Week is sponsored by the university’s Sexual Empowerment and Awareness at Tennessee club. The six-day event is expected to cost nearly $20,000 – covered in part by university grants, student fees and contributions from academic departments.
University of Tennessee spokeswoman Karen Simpson confirmed to Fox News that the conference is being funded by student fees and university money.
“The university is providing funding for this workshop because it covers a wide range of issues that are beneficial to our students,” Simpson said.
There are 30 events planned including “Getting Laid,” “Sex Positivity; Queer as a Verb,” “Bow Chicka Bow Woah,” “How to Talk to Your Parents About Sex,” “Loud and Queer,” and “How Many Licks Does It Take…” – a workshop about oral sex.
