Jersey college student starts 24/7 condom delivery service
This may seem like a silly story at first glance but consider how much more productive this student is than that certain 30-something law student who has created a career living off others.
This student has started a business, is making money, and is providing a service to his community.
Where’s the downside?
Alyssa Newcomb of ABC News reports.
New Jersey College Students Call ‘Condom Ambulance’ for Protection
Late-night pizza deliveries are a college staple, but condom deliveries?
Kyle McCabe, a sophomore at the College of New Jersey in Ewing Township, has become a condom-toting superhero on campus, on call to deliver protection to students 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
McCabe, an interactive multimedia major, said the idea for his business, CondAm, was born in October.
“Some friends and I have all run into a similar problem,” McCabe, 19, said of being caught in the heat of the moment without protection. ”I just sort of would rather people call me instead of going through with any sort of sexual encounters unprotected.”
The response among the school’s 6,100 full-time students has been positive, according to CondAm’s Facebook page, and McCabe said business is growing.
“This is genius” one Facebook user said, while another called it the “smartest idea I’ve seen in a long time.”
Students can order one Trojan Enz condom for $3, or up to 10 for $15 ($1.50 each), according to an order form on McCabe’s website. By comparison, Walmart sells the same condom online for about 25 cents apiece (36 for $9.04).
During prime “hook-up” hours, Friday through Sunday, 7 p.m. until 3 a.m. McCabe promises to deliver condoms anywhere on the school’s suburban campus within five minutes of receiving an order.
“My aim in this was to make it as seemingly cool as possible so people would gravitate toward it,” he said.
“Hopefully, I’m doing them a service that will prevent anything that may alter their lives forever.”
