FIRE Seeking 2013 Summer Interns
The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) is at the forefront of protecting political diversity on American campuses.
The group has had several key victories in preserving the rights of independent conservative students, and is now looking for interns to help in new battles.
Attention undergraduates and law students! FIRE is now accepting applications to our summer internship programs for 2013. FIRE internships are ideal for students who want to spend their summer doing important, substantive work for student and faculty rights.
The FIRE Summer Internship Program offers current undergraduates the chance to join FIRE’s Philadelphia office for an eight-week, paid internship. Over the summer, FIRE interns support our work and mission by conducting independent research, writing about FIRE cases and issues, and developing strategies for promoting free speech on their own campuses. Interns also participate in weekly seminars with FIRE staff and prominent experts on civil liberties, and help plan FIRE’s annual student conference. The Summer 2013 internship is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and will run from Monday, June 10 to Friday, August 2. Undergraduate interns will receive a stipend of $2,200.
FIRE’s Legal Internship Program invites rising 2L and 3L law students to work with FIRE attorneys to work on behalf of civil rights, liberty, and individual dignity. Legal interns perform vital research and write memoranda about recent developments in constitutional law; assist FIRE’s Individual Rights Defense Program with cases involving the abuse of civil liberties at colleges and universities across the country; and explore policy reform involving students’ freedoms of association, speech, conscience, and religion. Legal internships may be paid or unpaid, depending on individual students’ particular needs. Pursuit of independent funding and public interest fellowships is encouraged.
The deadline for the undergraduate internship is March 15, 2012. FIRE considers applications for legal internships year-round and on a rolling basis.
